A: The Camp Lejeune Justice Act is a law that was enacted by the United States Congress in August of 2022 to provide healthcare benefits to military personnel and their family members who were exposed to contaminated water at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina between 1953 and 1987.


Q: Who is eligible for benefits under the Camp Lejeune Justice Act?


A: The Act provides benefits to veterans, their family members, and civilians who worked or lived at Camp Lejeune during the period of contamination and who developed any of the medical conditions identified by the Department of Veterans Affairs as being related to exposure to contaminated water.


Q: What medical conditions are covered by the Camp Lejeune Justice Act?


A: Initially, only adult leukemia, aplastic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, liver cancer, multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, Parkinson's disease, and cancers of the esophagus, breast, lung, ovary, pancreas, prostate, and stomach were covered. Q: What benefits are provided by the Camp Lejeune Justice Act?


A: The Act provides for free healthcare to eligible individuals for the medical conditions mentioned above. Additionally, reimbursement of expenses for medical care received from non-VA providers may be possible.


Q: What if I have already received healthcare for one of the covered medical conditions?


A: The Act provides for reimbursement of expenses for medical care received from non-VA providers for one of the 15 medical conditions if you paid for it out-of-pocket. However, you must provide documentation to support the claim.
